I think I'm missing something here.
I've seen the Clipboard Recorder in action on the video tutorials, but whenever I turn it on, it doesn't work.
I use the Mac keyboard keys to grab an image and then there's an .png file on my desktop, but not in the ScreenSteps program.
Any ideas?

You are using the key command to capture images to the desktop. You want to use the one to capture to the clipboard. See this lesson here:

Let me know if you have any other questions.
Yep! That did it, thanks!
I guess I never thought there was a difference... till now. ;)
Yeah, we like the clipboard option because then you don't end up with a bunch of png files on your desktop.
I've got a similar issue on Windows using Jing <http://www.jingproject.com>. I like Jing because it lets you define the capture area on the fly (like cmd-shift-4 on a Mac). Once the image is captured you have the option of saving, uploading via FTP, copying or posting it to your Jing account. Unfortunately, the CR doesn't grab the images when placed on the clipboard by Jing. It appears to work for native Windows copy operations, though. Any ideas? Or, does anyone know of another way to define the capture area while copying an image in Windows?
Almost forgot... When I click the link to the lesson referenced in Greg's 16:26:28 post <http://bmls.screenstepslive.com/topics/show_lesson/45?lesson_id=359>, I get prompted for yet another login. Neither my personal ScreenSteps Live or Forum credentials will work, and I can't find a registration link. Am I missing something?
The link was pointing to an old manual. I updated in the post. Here is the updated url for the lesson on changing the keyboard shortcuts for system image capture on Mac OS X.

I can confirm the issue with the clipboard recorder and Jing. Actually ScreenSteps can't see what Jing has on the clipboard at all as the Paste command isn't activating when Jing puts images on the clipboard. I will look into this and see what I can find out.
I have uploaded a build of ScreenSteps that should fix the Jing issue. ScreenSteps was ignoring the image data type that Jing was putting on the clipboard. If you get a chance to try this build out let me know if it fixes the problem for you:
Windows: http://www.bluemangolearning.com/download/screensteps/2_0/test/ScreenSteps%202.1.2r19.exe
OS X: http://www.bluemangolearning.com/download/screensteps/2_0/test/ScreenSteps%202.1.2r19.dmg
Thanks, that works great with Cropper too. Now that this is working, I'll be happy to purchase.
Perfect. We would be happy to have you purchase :-)
I just finished implementing support for file paths on the clipboard. Windows Photo Gallery on Vista copies image paths to the clipboard rather than image data. We've also added support for image data when using drag and drop to create steps. Previously we only supported dragging image files.
Hopefully this will account for the majority (if not all) of methods that people will use to get images into ScreenSteps.
Where / when will this be available? I use Vista 64 and OS X Leopard
We should have a beta of the next release available in the coming weeks. We will announce the beta through the newsletter and I will post a message in the forums as well.
